Current Service
These are some of the projects and agencies our club supports.
- Make available the “Grant A Wish” Program
- Offer teachers (Gr5-8) the opportunity to get funding for a special project that fosters health education
- Give monthly financial donations to the Saco Food Pantry
- Donate food /gifts to a family at Christmas and provide some support throughout the year, in cooperation with the Salvation Army
- Support Caring Unlimited - our area’s battered women’s shelter-provide Christmas gift bags
- Provide Christmas gifts for Port Resources’ group home residents
- Provide Christmas gifts for Common Connection Club members
- Donate suggested items to the “Get It Together” program for women entering the workplace.
- Support York County Child Abuse and Neglect Council’s Rick Charette Christmas Concert.
- Support The Maine Way’s Transitional Housing Residence with time, money and expertise
- Support Ferry Beach Ecology School
- Support YMCA Youth Programs and 21 Club
- Support Southern Maine Medical Center’s Lifeline program
- Support First Teachers program
- Exploring the establishment of a Scholarship Program
Past Service
In the past, we have:
- Supported the Alfred Homeless Shelter with donations of funds and time
- Partnered with the Quebec club to facilitate the immigration process for the Maralois’-refugees from Romania
- Volunteered monthly at the Bon Appetit Community Meal Program
- Spruced up the “Altrusa Room” for use by the Biddeford Adult Ed program
- Sponsored a blood drive
- Staffed the weekly Children’s Reading Hour at the Hospice Bookstore
- Spent a day alphabetizing books for the new Lyman Public Library
- Provided personal items and games for the York County Jail
- Provided gifts for Sweetser children
- Collected “A Mile of Books” –new and used- for the Headstart Program
- Provided yarn for the RSVP knitters
- Planned, financed and participated in a Mardi Gras-cultural awareness program at JFK school
